Rhiannon Isabela and Evangeline Grace Clary

Our Babies

Evangeline

Rhiannon was due to be born on May 5th, but Mom had a feeling she would arrive a little late, given this was her first pregnancy.  Adding to her confidence level was the fact that both her sisters Adrienne and Samantha had given birth to their three daughters a week or more after their due dates.  So she couldn't t say she was too surprised when her doctor told her at her final checkup on the 5th that if she didn't see any changes in the next week she'd most likely induce labor.

Sure enough things remained quiet, so on the afternoon of Monday, May 12th, Mommy and Daddy checked into Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta to start the delivery process.  The original plan was to monitor Rhiannon and Mom over night, then induce labor first thing Tuesday morning.  However, several times during the night Rhiannon's heart rate suddenly dropped to unacceptable levels.  Although it immediately climbed back to normal levels, the doctor felt inducing labor may put the baby at risk and decided a Cesarean section was the best way to go.  So at 7:00am Mom was rolled into the operating room and at 7:37am Rhiannon was born.  Cause of her lowered heart rate during the night?  Turned out her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck in the womb, so the C-section was definitely the right way to go.

Rhiannon

Evangeline, e.g., Baby Girl Clary II or Baby LuLu as we liked to refer to her around the house before she was born, is our second little miracle. Her due date was April 7th, but we knew early on she would be a scheduled c-section.

The pregnancy was opposite in nearly every way from Rhiannon’s, and mom was very closely monitored from nearly the beginning – with two doctor check-ups a week during the final few weeks - but the outcome was the same – Evangeline Grace was born healthy and perfect in every way.

After weeks of preparation for the arrival, Mommy and Daddy checked into Northside Hospital in Atlanta, at 5:00 AM on Wednesday, April 4th for the delivery scheduled for 7:00 AM. All went according to plan, and Evangeline came into the world at 7:34 AM.  She did great, and showed her strength from the start with the doctor remarking during the procedure “She is fighting me coming out.” Evangeline adjusted quickly and took to her new surroundings readily, sleeping and nursing like a champ.
